To Blog or not to Blah?!

“Bloggers are blogging about their own blogs” :S

Blog vs Blah Indeed there are bunch of things to blog about however I prefer not to talk about anything unless it’s worthy to talk about. Moreover, thoughts always take its time to be fully modeled before the final render, i.e. blogging.

Consequently, what is important -form my perspective- is not merely the ‘quantity’ but mainly the ‘quality’ of what is being written yet Perspective differs since we are different.

On the other hand, I wonder do bloggers take there time in reading others’ posts carefully? I think the majority just scan the posts to get the major idea and then either pop into commenting or just ignore the whole titles; however I think that bloggers take their time to write their posts so better take your time to read.

Anyway, welcome everybody to my blog and thanks a lot for the valuable time you spent while reading.

Surely quality is most important, but being a communicative person I always have something to say ;) And for those, who sometimes feel, that they do not have ideas, what to blog about, I suggest to read some news around the world, and just try to explain your opinion honestly. There are so many things going on every day ;)
Or find some of those popular list-posts in popular blogs, who advice, what to blog about. That indicates, that their author itself was lack of ideas ;)

Quality is important. But there are times I need to “blog” something that has nothing to do with the massess of readers.

Hi Hicham, thank you for visiting my blog. I agree with what you stated above. I enjoy blogging as much as reading blogs. That’s where I can get inspiration and knowledge.

By the way, I like your writing style. Keep it up! :)

I think you are right where most people will just scan the post and get a idea what the blogger is talking about. I am one of those people that will scan and then go over it if somethings catches my attention.

My blog is a journal so I post everyday on anything that I like. The topic or post doesn’t have to be the best. I say blogging should be fun for you and the reader. This is a long post so it is time to go.

Your point is well taken. I agree with you entirely. Quality is essential, both in terms of what is posted by the blogger, as well as the individual who comments. However, the sad news is that far too often, those who blog have nothing of value to offer, so there is little to which to respond intelligently. There is an adage, “If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all.” Perhaps it should be amended to ,”If you can’t say anything pertinent, don’t say anything at all.”

When it comes to commenting, I try to read the entire post, unless it’s very long, and then I’ll just skim the rest to get the full idea before I comment.
I always try to add a relevant, thoughtful comment instead of just “marking the territory”, with a quick “nice post”, which is obviously what some people do. I don’t like when people come to a post on my blog, say “nice blog”, and then just leave their link. I think that’s a bit presumptuous, rude, and totally self serving. You didn’t stop by to comment, or care at all about my post. You’re just linking. I know that this is part of the game of getting a good PR, but at least be respectable about it! Comment once without adding your link in the body, and then come back another time and put your link (with a relevant comment) if you want.
When it comes to blogging, I never run out of things to blog about. My niche is health and fitness, but I make my blog from more of a personal perspective, so I can veer off and blog about anything that is happening in the world.

I’m with Keith: I normally scan, unless it’s a blogging friend or unless the post is really interesting.

Anyway, I think it’s been said plenty of times before: people don’t read online: they scan. When we write our posts, we should adjust our expectations accordingly.

Blogging is really a healthy experience for me. I try to write all of my thoughts on things and express everything that has happened to me in my blog. No matter what you talk about, it doesn’t matter, if you are just looking for a personal blog. But if you want to earn money from your blog, you should post some quality posts for viewers to stay hooked…

    Hi Hicham.

    Yes definitely, quality is IT.
However as sometimes there can be ‘uncreative’ moments, which last more than one day I appreciate photo-blogging to get over these moments. There is also the need for continual posting and there’s nothing wrong with sharing some nice pics from ones life or neighbor hood. That also makes us to appear more ‘human’ and not just intellectual (or whatever) writing machines. So I propose to post photos (and here again rather ‘original’ ones not stolen from another site) in times when we have a hard time to think about what to post.

    Best regards!

    Hi Hicham,

This is my first visit to your site, happily as a result of your dropping on mine. Thank you - I’m seriously impressed. Your posts are SO worth reading and not scanning over!

I do think that blogging creates opportunity for a number of types of posting, all valid:

Thought-provoking and well planned articles like yours, to be carefully read, are very stimulating indeed and feed the intellect.

Personal journal posts of people sharing their daily experiences create a sense of empathy; a feeling that one is not alone, and that other people also experience life’s irritations, successes, failures and joys. A platform to share these situations is helpful too, in that shared experiences make it easier to cope. It doesn’t matter that they may be emotional rather than academic; they strike a cord.

Posts that are an outlet for some humour to relieve the daily frustrations are also great; that’s medicinal value!

Then, of course, there are those who write about particular interests and have their own niche readership, with a great network of sharing.

However, I agree with you - whatever the type of blog or post, and whatever writing style one may have, please DO have something to say! A keyboard doesn’t need exercising just for the sake of it!

@ vote: Yeah I understand your point of view and glad that you’ve always something to say ;)

@ kimmy: Yup same here ;)

@ Blogging for Novice: You are welcome and I’m trying to do this so thanks for your sweet complement.

@ Greg Ellison: Yup I noticed this scan thing and I liked your blog. Please don’t worry because your post wasn’t long at all; mine is the one :)

@ Sharon Hart: I totally agree with you and we know that sometimes people say things that they might regret about later.

@ Keith Stieneke: I’m glad that someone is actually reading not just scanning so welcome again.

@ The Fitness Diva: Interesting comment. I’ve no problem with the PR thing yet I enjoy reading valuable comments because this complete the original post and maybe someone find his/her way through a word!

@ Michael: Indeed you are right and also about how the reader perceives the post.

@ Cidahmed: Merci Ahmed, you are welcome and Eid Mubarak for you too.

@ Vered - MomGrind: Yes however why do we write if people don’t read; [LOL]

@ joe gleb: Well,I’m a very lucky person that you reached the end of my post then :)

@ Ice Rabia: That’s the point. I recently visited a bunch of blogs that are just money making and I understand the purpose for sure.

@ Wilbau: Hello Wilbau, indeed and the term “human” makes me pause because sometimes I visit blogs and wonder what’s going on there.

@ Mike: Truly said and well commented and reminds me that we are not alone in the world when it comes to share thoughts either via posting or commenting!

Thanks people and sorry for the late replies!

Just wonder - if the point you’re a blogger makes you think of different things more thoroughly, try to notice more details (to write about later). Have blogging made you more attentive, noticing more and learning more about the life around you? Have blogging made you grow?

@ Polina: Well, blogging and writing are the final outcome of the process that start with watching, passing by thinking, analyzing, and finally write this down. I’ve elaborated on this over the post entitled “Read” and “Think” respectively.

You are absolutely right. Quality is better than quality. And you will know when a commenter has not read your post from their reply. But I guess that is a part of how society is… always in a rush, trying to use the least amount of time to get the most amount of information. We learn so much if we just take the time to absorb it all. :)

Well i have to say your entries are quite small but they are to the point (didn’t quite get the drift of the “back to the future” but never mind eh)

I think maybe I am making my posts a tad long. I would not say that they are not quality but I can write a lot quickly and that is how they become as large as they are.

Interesting blog post. I think a blog has to catch a reader’s attention, I am a blogger myself, been doing it for a few months and I personally don’t read everyone’s blog, and Im very selective on which blogs i comment on or read. Somehow I was drawn to your blog post as well as your blog page. Simple yet inviting! and thats the reason for this comment.

    Happy blogging!

Interesting thoughts. Often I find myself rushing and scanning the blogs I read. Only if the topic really catches me do I slow down and read more carefully. I do appreciate conciseness in other’s writing, but often find I write less concisely than I would like. Yes, quality is important — I think a key to that is self-editing: write, read, edit, re-read, re-edit, etc. (Again, I’m guilty of not always having the time to self-edit.)

“what is important -form my perspective-”…

Is this the product of taking time to write your post? :)

Just kidding. I make the same typing mistake. And you’re not a native English speaker, are you? But more seriously, rereading post and comments is also important. A lot of silly comments would never be made if people gave themselves a few seconds to reread what they actually are saying before they posted them.

There are some people i know who can actually scan and understand what you are trying to say. I don’t know much of their training but it keeps them looking for the essential stuff you put in your writings than be carried along the narratives. They are called power readers, if there’s such a person. Though it make sense.

Hicham, I’m not very organised. There are some blogs I love and read very carefully whatever’s new. New blogs I scan quickly and then decide whether to read in more detail, come back … or not. Quality is important .. but for those blogs I read regularly I also like to see frequent posts (if I like something then I want more of it!). Now I’ve written this I realise that I’m much more organised than I thought!!!!

And I’ve added your blog to my ‘come back’ category. :-)

Ian, I totally agree with you regarding the post because the as much as we read, things are being more clear in our minds and maybe we find lights for things that were dark for long time in our head! At least this happens with me while reading others blogs.

Hey, Isn’t it amazing how we discover things that we thought we don’t have :P [Well Organised, don't worry] :)
