The Language
I’m still wandering in the wonderland of human nature, and this third post deals with the direct human interaction among people in the mundane life.
I found human interaction one of the complicated processes that take place because unlike other creatures’ kingdoms, such interaction takes place in different levels starting with spoken language and ending with the doings. Nowadays, it’s normal to hear people complain about problems in dealing with each other but can we analyse the reasons behind such problems?
The Con Factor
Well, I see that these problems are directly proportional to the implementation of our saying and doings with others in everything, such implementation of saying and doings has only two cases:
Case 1 - Conjugation: This case means that what you say is moving in parallel with what you do in situations. Hereby, the resultant force of both sayings and doings is a positive one that gives you a straight-forward push, allowing you gain credibility among people, which means in other words: trustful and honest personality that people can rely on.
Case 2 - Contradiction: This case means that what you say is crossing with what you do in situations. Hereby, the resultant force of both sayings and doings is a negative one because each one is trying to gain control on the other, causing confusion for the people dealing with you, which decrease the credibility till the point you loose it. In other words: untruthful and dishonest.
Nevertheless, I’ve to mention that I mean by “sayings” both what you say and believe in so it’s not only the spoken language, whereas “doings” means both what you do and your body do so it’s not only the actions but your body language too. Consequently, the two mentioned cases reveals the state of balance and unbalance which I've mentioned in the previous post entitled "Under the Sun".
Indeed! People are different in perspectives due to the unique personality of each human being plus many other factors; however there is always a common ground that we can meet within to interact and people can not discover or understand each other unless clarity is the keystone or else everything will be dimmed! Consequently, this is one of the cornerstones of the islamic creed which we -Muslims - are ought to follow; being honest and clear people.
In a nutshell, since we are humans who have minds not merely brains therefore the choice is ours; we can model a bridge or a wall among each other so it’s all yours!

You are right Hecham, I can say also that each head have his own world, some times we say good and do wrong, but it doesn’t mean that we are bad people! some people put shells around them not to let others know what they really are! this has nothing with language.
March 2nd, 2009 @ 14:08
Hesham, I know what you mean and got your point.
Bad vs. Good is another subject that I might talk about in a future post but simply it’s the attitude of people themselves regardless the situation. Hereby I meant the communitation with others which need the language.

Great to see you back writing again after a break of a couple of months.
I really like that last sentence “we can model a bridge or a wall among each other” – so true! Walls get on the way, prevent free movement and are hard to see through while bridges take us places we couldn’t otherwise reach.
But how much easier it is to build walls rather than bridges! We only need to put the bricks one on top of the other. Bridges require much greater effort and greater skill!
I enjoyed your post!

Ian, That’s another excellent insight for what I mean
Just place obstacles in the way and complain about not being able to pass; that’s the core of the problem in the light of what you said and I mentioned in the post.

It is hard to listen to someone and take them seriously if their actions contradict their words. I think another problem with communication is when you are trying to communicate with someone who does not have an open mind, the types who are already closed off from hearing new ideas.

@Kikolani: Exactly, Kikolani. You feel that he/she is a lair and thus anything goes after this is just nonsense.

Hi, this is my first time commenting so I would like to begin by saying, what an interesting blog. I like the point you make about if our actions and words are expressing the same sentiment(hopefull good) then we gain credibility. I physically can’t listen to some people when I know how hypocritical they are, in their deeds expressing one action and the words another, perhaps this isn’t the right reaction from me but I find it hard to bear it. Anyways thanks again.

Very insightful post, Hicham.
As humans we are lucky enough possess many
forms of communication, but I feel that
many of my pupils (I’m a tutor) have no
interest in using their minds – and
therefore communication – at all.

@Duni: Duni, I know what you mean however don’t you think that this is because they are still young? I mean we deal with them from our perspective as adults? Maybe and maybe not.
March 15th, 2009 @ 12:11
In order to have good communication skills, frequent practice is a must. Every time we use our minds on thinking what we shall say and write, the task of communicating becomes easy and effortless. Our minds also become sharper.

Hi
I suppose then, essentially, successful interaction is a function of our authenticity. This is an area that I feel is often so difficult to cultivate and maintain throughout all of one’s dealings. Especially when people are faced with such hectic and stressful lives – not making excuses though.

interesting post. I see quite a lot of people whom you call “contradiction”, and I still don’t understand why they did that.

Like you, I also think that before understanding how we interact with others, we need to be able to acknowledge how we use the language ourselfs, and reflect on the roots before they establish themselfs in action. Ultimatetly it’s about acknowledging who we are behind the language, and having the freedom to express our choices, with others.
