Library Cats

In the previous post, I've talked about “book shopping” and how book lovers can go through such process. Consequently, if we are not into buying books we can go to any public library to read.

Cats who read Books

Cats who read BooksNevertheless who said that only humans love to read? Check the video in this post and you shall discover that “cats” also love so!

The report in this video introduces ‘Dewey’ who was a landmark of ‘Spencer Library’ between 1987-2006. Unfortunately, I understand from the video that this sweety have passed away! Anyway the idea itself cheers me up since I am both book + cat lover [ :smile: ]

Book Shopping

People who love reading are aware about the famous quote “Books are our Best Friends” but why are they? Since I was young, I used to think a lot about it and heard many reasons however they did not convince me, at least fully. When I grew up, I reached a personal conclusion that books are so because you feel their company same as you do with your close human friends!

Despite being in the 21st century and the availability of e-books, which I do keep an eye on, I still adore reading those lovely paper books because leafing is something special; at least for me. Hence, school/college library + public libraries were my favourite places to go when I am not with my friends.

Go Shopping

Go Shopping for BooksSince my 20s, I started a personal way of “book shopping” same as we do for other stuff which is a process that passes by the following steps:

  • Writing down a check-list for bookstore(s) to visit;
  • Entering the selected bookstore according to the priority list;
  • Staring at the titles of the books as usual;
  • Avoiding to start looking with best sellings;
  • Checking the intros on the back cover whenever possible;
  • Making the ‘hard choice’ esp. if money is not enough;
  • Paying the bill at the desk and wonders about the money you spent.

Et voila, you have got new books to read. [ :idea: ] And I never regreted any money I spent on books even if it sometimes makes me wonder where the heck the money have gone (as usual) [ :mrgreen: ]

Consequently, I find it hard when people ask me to recommend book(s) and/or novel(s) to read; everybody has his/her own taste and I do believe it is important that everybody go through the discovering process alone and make his/her own ‘book cocktail’ for the themes he/she wants to read.

In fact, this does not happen suddenly; rather it is an accommodation process that takes time so be patient till you realise what theme(s) you want to follow up with. Here, of course, I am talking about reading outside the scope of your work or the job you do.

Nevertheless, I do not believe in the quantity of anything or being impressed by how many books I or someone bought as much as believing in the quality which means do you think about what you read? This is the question that I have elaborated on over an old post linked below so feel free to check it.

Ladies and Gentlemen: this is an invitation to take your own journey to a bookstore in your city and start shopping; it is not about the price by the way because you can always find the cheap books.
