Shayassa ya Fandem

I came through an interesting article about Sexual Harassments over MuslimaMediaWatch which deals with discussing the nature of what is supposed to be ‘humorous commercials’. The article presented the issue well, so here in my post, I am concerned about going beyond the advertisements.

Harassment is DraculaThe terminology placed in my article is apparently Egyptian due to the subject I am posting about, but first, please make sure to read the mentioned post in order to keep on synchronizing with me then come back to check what I am discussing.

Harassment

Did you read and watch? Great because in a trial to reach a better lifestyle for Egyptians, I am suggesting an upgrade for super-duper intelligent devices presented there as follows:

  • As for the 1st video: It can have the sound of ‘Tawfiq Aldaken’ (in Arabic: توفيق الدقن) saying his famous phrase: “ Ahla mesharaf mafesh ... ya ah .. ya ah ” (in Arabic: أحلى من الشرف مفيش ... يا آه .. يا آه) in order to place an impression because as you know that first impressions last, are not they?
  • As for the 2nd video: It can have a hand that slaps the guy on his face accompanied by a punishing phrase in our Egyptian way “ Ya 2alil El-Adab ” (in Arabic: يا قليل الأدب) in order to teach the guy the corresponding hard lesson! Btw, this is better than the ‘insect repellent’ add-on because our streets are over-loaded with more than enough odours!

Needless to mention how I highly recommend having ‘sound effects’ of both the slap and the shout since this is supposed to play an extra important role in the whole operation and thus the poor thing -in both videos- can freely practice what 2nd video mentions as “ teshayass ” (in Arabic: تشهيص) in the free world.

On the other hand, I have a technical note. Even when they try to imitate what others do, they make it “ ZEFT ” (in Arabic: زفت) like that, which makes me wonder what about signing a contract with any ‘foreign coach’ to make better results since the locals proved their failures!

Awareness

Ah dear readers, I could not stop by those ads without placing this. So aside from sarcasm, I am aware that harassment is found in Egypt, however preaching that the magical solution is in Shahyassa, I think it is not only useless but also helping in the fixation of the common stereotyped image about women and men in ‘Egypt’ & ‘Arab/Muslim’ world in general.

The type of generalising that these commercials do by portraying all of us -Egyptians Men and Women- like that is not acceptable because still there are people who behave because they are respecting themselves and others but maybe they are not as much appearing to others as those who do not.

Nevertheless, as for the harrasment itself, I do not support the idea that women are the only who to blame as many men place as an automatic response or stupid defence when they are asked about, or can you explain to me then -Mr. Nice Guy- why many veild women are exposed to such disgusting problem in Egypt? They are supposed to be our sisters whether they are veild or not, or I understand wrong? No I am not; it is your problem that you do not understand anything right whether you are male or female. Is not this what Islam call for or I am also undersanding this wrong? Again, no I am not!

Harassment -as I believe- is mainly related to persons’ mentality; either being men or women and this is why you find people who flirt and who do not and both videos send the wrong message and perfectly mentioned thoe exaggerations in the behaviour of the two genders who do not understand a meaning for the life they are living and hence its all about awareness for both.

On the other hand, the status of women generally in our societies from east to west became very silly from all aspects and in Egypt it is more silly because we are still discussing what we are supposed to be finished from hundreds of years ago as I have discussed before, so while referring you to my previous critique, I am looking forward to hearing your inputs.

“O mankind! Lo! We have created you male and female, and have made `you nations and tribes that ye may know one another. Lo! the noblest of you, in the sight of Allah, is the best in conduct. Lo! Allah is Knower, Aware.” ~ [Meanings of the Holy Qur'an by Marmaduke Pickthall (49:13)]
