Shahyasah ya Fandem
I came through an interesting article Sexual Harassments over MuslimaMediaWatch blog that deals with discussing the nature of what is supposed to be humorous commercials. The article presented the issue well, so in my post I am concerned about going beyond the advertisements.
Nevertheless, the terminology placed in my article is apparently Egyptian due to the subject of discussion in the videos, but first please make sure to read the mentioned post in order to keep on synchronizing with me then come back to check what I am discussing.

Shahyasah ya Fandem: Sarcasm
Shahyasah: A Sarcasm
Did you read and watch? Great because in a trial to reach a better lifestyle for Egyptians, I am suggesting an upgrade for super-duper intelligent devices presented there as follows:
- For the 1st video: It can have the sound of “Tawfiq Aldaken (in Arabic: توفيق الدقن)” saying his famous phrase: “Ahla mesharaf mafesh, ya ah, ya ah (Arabic: أحلى من الشرف مفييش – يا آه يا آه)” in order to place an impression because as you know that first impressions last, are not they?
- For the 2nd video: It can have a hand that slaps the guy on his face accompanied by a punishing phrase in our Egyptian way “Ya ‘alil el-Adab (in Arabic: يا قليل الأدب)” in order to teach the guy the corresponding hard lesson! Btw, this is better than the “insect repellent add-on” that is suggested by the videos since our streets are over-loaded with more than enough odors!
Needless to mention how I highly recommend having sound effects of both the slap and the shout since this is supposed to play an extra important role in the whole operation and thus the poor thing – in both videos – can freely practice what 2nd video mentions as “teshayass (in Arabic: تشهيص)” in the free world.
On the other hand, I have a technical note. Even when they try to imitate what others do, they make it “zeft (in Arabic: زفت)” like that, which makes me wonder what about signing a contract with any foreign coaches to make better results since the locals proved their failures!

Shahyasah ya Fandem: Harassment is Dracula
Harassment is Dracula
I could not stop by these ads without starting with Sarcasm. So aside it, I am aware that harassment is found in Egypt; however preaching that the magical solution is in “Shahyasah (Arabic: شهيصة)“, I think it is not only useless but also helping in the fixation of the common stereotyped image about women and men in Egypt plus the Arab-Muslim world in general.
The type of generalizing that these commercials do by portraying all of us – Egyptians Men and Women – like that is not acceptable because still there are people who behave because they are respecting themselves and others but maybe they are not as much appearing to others as those who do not.
Nevertheless, as for the harassment itself, I do not support the idea that women are the only who to blame as many men place as an automatic response or stupid defense when they are asked about, or can you explain to me then – Mr. Nice Guy – why many veiled women are exposed to such disgusting problem in Egypt? They are supposed to be our sisters in nationality and humanity whether they are veiled or not, Muslims or Christians, or else I understand wrong? No I am not; rather it is your problem – whether you are male or female – that you do not try to use your mind rationally and ignore your human intellect as a person while taking the easy way of the “hot or not” attitude that I highlighted upon before which is nothing but sexism.
In a nutshell, harassment from my perspective is mainly related to persons’ mentality either men or women; hence, this is why you find people who flirt and who do not and both videos send the wrong message and perfectly mentioned those exaggerations in the behavior of the two genders who do not understand a meaning for the life they are living and hence its all about awareness that can be summarized in “Modesty of the Mind” for both of them. On the other hand, the status of women generally in our societies from east to west became very silly from all aspects and in Egypt it is sillier because we are still discussing what we are supposed to be finished from hundreds of years ago!
