of London’s Trafalgar Square Event

Assalam Alaikum wa rahmat Allah.
Peace be upon you dear visitor.

Today afternoon, a civilian and civilized demonstration will take place in London’s Trafalgar Square, according to the BBC News report, in order to protest against the insulting cartoons published by the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten last September 2005. It is held under the permission and the support of London Mayor Ken Livingstone and mainly cooperation between UK Mainstream Muslim Community, Christian organizations and Scotland Yard to ensure that no extremists will involve within this event.

Prophet Muhammad: Danish Cartoon Crisis

Prophet Muhammad: Danish Cartoon Crisis

I liked the idea of this peaceful demonstration plus criticism against Jyllands-Posten 12 cartoons since I clearly mentioned before that I am against violence from Muslims and Non-Muslims because it will never solve the crisis and hence it is unacceptable

Furthermore, reacting with violence is neither from Islam nor was practiced by Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) himself, so they do not reflect the real Islamic manners since it simply feeds the wrong and stereotyped images about Islam and Muslims and hence Islamophobia.

On the other hand, I am pretty sure (101%) that Muslims who live in the West are part of their countries which means that Danish Muslims are proud to be Muslim same as tp be Danish; this goes for British, Norwegian, French, American or any other nationality. They are citizens who respect the country which they choose to live in; however their identity as Muslims must be respected.

Finally, if you are a first time visitor to my blog and interested in reading my thoughts regarding this Danish cartoon crisis, you are welcome to check my previously elaborations and place your comment after reading:

  1. Salam Everybody – Good Job, and I wish to see more real acts to solve this cartoon row.

  2. Well said. There’s another side to this, though. The newspaper’s right to freedom of speech must also be respected.

Part of living in a free country is that other people are allowed to say things that offend you. If they offend enough people, those people can punish them–in this case appropriate actions include no longer buying the paper and peaceful demonstrations to convince others to do the same.

    • Salam Bob – thanks for your thoughtful opinion.

Well, I totally agree with you as much as we are talking about regular people. In the previous post titled “of torching the Embassies” I replied to a near comment saying that No one can accuse anybody from telling his opinion, that’s Freedom that I understand.

However if we are talking about Prophets – whether Muhammed (PBUH) or others – limits must be placed. Prophets are not normal people who are subjected to right and wrong, rather they are the messengers of ALLAH (swt) – GOD – to Mankind, and Islam respects all prophets and had ordered Muslims to believe that they are the messengers to Mankind before the final prophet, Muhammed (PBUH).

That’s why Islam denies portraying any prophet – not only Muhammed (PBUH), and it’s a basic character in Islamic Culture that must be totally understood.

Anyway I hope to see real steps for solving this row from both sides which cam
