Kolena Laila 2009

Have you heard about “Kolena Laila (Arabic: كلنا ليلى)” event before? If yes then OK. If no, then it is a virtual initiative on the blogosphere that aims to highlight and critique the status of women by reviewing the ideas prevailed about them in our societies in the Arab world since the year 2006.

The event of this year shall take place online in the last week of the last month of this 3rd during the period (24th – 30th of December 2009). Inshallah I will participate participated with a blog entry since I am concerned about status of Arab women in our societies from the Atlantic Ocean in the west to the Arabian Gulf in the east of our Arab World.     • Mohaly: Laila is the heroine of Latifa El-Zayat’s novel Al-Bab Al-Maftooh which is roughly translated as ‘The Open Door’ for non-Arabic speakers. It was also transformed into a film starting Faten Hamama in the past century.
