Ever Wonder?

Wayback Machine (Internet Archive)
Assalam Alaikum wa rahmat Allah.
Peace be upon you dear visitor.
Everyday we sit down in front of our computers to surf the Internet for various websites according to everybody’s interest; however, did you ever wonder about how these websites looks like at the very beginning? Here is a geek tip on discovering this.
Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine provides an answer for this curious question. This tool enables your to find a huge on-line archive for over 55 billion web pages from 1996 to few months ago. Archives are listed according to the dates under each year starting from 1996 up to 2005 until this post was written.
For example, this is how Google Blogger (blogspot) looks like in the past. In case you do not know, “Blogger” had started as a small business company called “Pyra Labs” in 1999 before Google bought them in 2002.
In this screen shot to the right, when you click the thumbnail for the full image, you can see the copyright note in the footer as follows: “Copyright © Pyra Labs Ltd.” I captured this shot while visiting the first archived page provided by the Wayback Machine and it’s fabulous Internet Archive.
So, what about starting your own journey back to the year 1996 and see how famous websites looks like? Maybe you discover that some of them we not born yet but you will find them in the following years. Anyway, although I am not a nostalgic but this reminds me with two previous posts on this blog: “PC Old Days are coming back again” when I bought my two desktop pc plus “Classic MS-DOS Games are back” when I remembered these old days of playing them!
Funny, isn’t it?
Salam,
Hicham

Technical Note – Again, seems like my blog was not accessible today for some time. There was a failure in one of the servers as blogger team posted in this post – [status.blogger.com/2006/03/some-users-are-currently-getting-403_08.html]. I apologize for inconvenience.

Very interesting, stuff. I am glad I didn’t start a blog in ’96. Smile.

Aiman – Yup, very interesting indeed. It’s very funny to see those websites. However, it’s all about the technologies of those old days which were used to create/publish different websites.
I’m pretty sure that after few years from now, what we are using now will be old and other people will come and laugh at
Anyway, C’est La Vie.
