Bloggers Unite: Blog Reader Appreciation Day (2009)

Bloggers Unite: Blog Reader Appreciation Day (2009)

Bloggers are eager to have visitors for their blogs whereas they differ in the ways they to do so. A famous way among them is engaging into whatever traffic exchange networks in order to acquire visitors. I myself tried this and enjoyed discovering new blogs on the blogosphere with new bloggers whom I regularly visit; however from the time spent there I noticed something worthy to talk about.

Nevertheless, I noticed that the majority of bloggers engaged over such networks are just visiting for gaining traffic, credits, points or whatever regardless taking time to read or stop by the blog he (and she) visits to check its content.

Hence the blogger who is the author of any visited blog might be involved in a situation of having a lot of visitors who rarely contribute over the blog, so my question is simply: what is the benefit of traffic without readers or people who care?

Five Tips before Clicking and Running

I do believe that every blogger spent a valuable time – regardless its duration – in preparing and writing down his (and her) post. This effort deserves to be rewarded via reading and commenting back with something relevant to the post; not just visiting or placing a comment for gaining back a link. If you search over the internet, you shall find a lot of posts on the blogosphere that issues blogging tips on how to gain visitors or comments; hence, I want to sum them into the following five tips:

  1. Take your time to actually read the posts;
  2. Comment back with relevant way to the post not just to gain a backlink;
  3. If you like a post/blog, simply do socialize it over networks;
  4. If you like a blog do subscribe into its feed to follow up;
  5. Bookmark the blog and re-visit regardless the network you are exchanging traffic on.

As simple as that :)

Thank You Dear Reader + Happy Birthday

On the other hand, I want to thank every body who has stopped by my blog for whatever time and left me a comment; I appreciate your valuable time spent over mine and your valuable contributions although I know that I am not posting a lot yet I prefer “To Blog not to Blah!” as elaborated before.

Consequently, April 15th is the anniversary of my blog so Happy Birthday My Blog! Hence I have installed “commentluv plugin” to celebrate my fellow readers; i.e. You. Additionally, I want to thank Hisham for announcing his CommentLuv list over his blog which is worthy to check.

Again: thank you dears for reading, visiting or even ignoring :)

  3. Quality over quantity is my approach.

    I have about 100 blogs I’m subscribed to and if I decide to read a post I always read all of it. I believe that is the way I can show respect to the author. I’m not always drawn to the topic, or the title so I may pass some posts by, even on some of my very favourite blogs. But I’ll stay with blogs I like for as long as we are on a rewarding journey together.

    And if I have something to say, then I’ll comment. Sometimes I leave no comments in a day, sometimes I leave 15 comments.

    If someone leaves a comment on my blog I will always visit them and see what they write about. Often I’ll become a follower. Not always.

    And happy birthday to your blog. That’s a great achievement.

  4. I agree with this post entirely. I get excited when I see my blogs view count go up but I get more excited when that traffic directs to the posts I hold most dear.
    It seems to be pretty much a given however that anyone who is strictly focused on page views will primarily post in quantity over quality.

  5. You said” what is the benefit of traffic without readers or people who care?”

    Indeed!

    Happy Blog Birthday! Love your template, btw. Do you use WordPress?

  9. It’s a good thing you point this out. Because sadly that’s really what’s happening now. Honestly, I myself visits and comments to other blogs which is not irrelevant to my blog but not only to gain traffic but most importantly to meet friends and to read/subscribe as well to quality blogs out there.

  10. Well said…I agree that too many bloggers focus on quantity over quality. By the way, great blog and Happy Birthday!

  11. Happy blogging anniversary, and thanks for adding in CommentLuv!

    As far as traffic goes, I think the people who are more concerned about traffic hits vs. actual readers are the ones that are heavy in advertising. One of the selling points to advertisers is pageviews, but not necessarily the amount of time spent on the page. Granted, sites with higher readership do better with affiliate marketing, but for the ads that pay per pageview/impression, dedicated readers doesn’t really matter.

    The other theory is that the more you exposure you get, the more chances of converting a dedicated reader. I have been on those traffic exchange networks, and I never really got a lot of credit for them, because I would take the time to read a post or two, and some I ended up staying with. So if getting 1,000 random hits equals a few new dedicated readers, it would be worth it.

  15. True, though I never read a blog that I don’t leave a comment on; and don’t understand why people who want comments and interaction on their blogs are unwilling to give it on someone else’s blog. Makes no sense to me. Percentages though…well I think I left about 40 blog comments yesterday while I was dropping, through some interesting things on blog catalog etc, and last I checked (few hours ago), had 2 comments on my blog. So clearly, some folks really don’t reciprocate. I don’t leave two word comments like nice blog. I do read. I indicate where I agree or disagree or relate something in my life relevant to the posters post. I enjoy that. Some blogs are hard though because they’re only open to those with the same type of blog, don’t leave room for an url (I then include with my actual comment). I don’t understand though the subscription thing and therefore I never do that. I can see updates on my 3 blogger blogs from my blog list so always know when someone’s added something new. Is that what you mean? That also keeps me from having to bookmark it. I’m not sure what you mean by socializing the blog? So, since I don’t have whatever type of blog it is you have; my routine would be. If you visit and comment on my blog back, I would then have you’re url and generally ad to my blog list so I can come back and visit. I always visit everyone on my list. The list is large enough I can’t do it daily, but I always do. As my list grew, I started adding after someone visited me twice and for the most part there is a good back and forth that way. (I should add, my first blog is where my list is, http://4ccccs.blogspot.com/, in order for this rambling to make sense.

  16. Belated happy birthday! We have the same sentiments. I like to have more visitors to my blogs and I’m always happy whenever someone left a message for me–as long as it is relevant to my topics, of course. I write my blogs painstakingly so I’d like to be appreciated. But maybe we’re wishing too much. :D

  17. I really enjoyed your article and its very true.

    Isn’t it frustrating to see people flocking on trifling posts but ignoring content of substance? We can’t blog about Britney Spears’s faux pas 24/7, can we?

    All I know is that web pages like yours, Hicham, are worth visiting, reading and commenting upon.

  24. i am not in a hurry and take my time to read and appreciate blogs ot there,yours is nice, salaam,r

  25. I am in agreement with everything you have posted. I’m beginning to look carefully at the number of blogs I am reading in comparison to the number of comments I am leaving. Doing so makes me feel remorse. I have over-faced myself. I have far too many favorite blogs to read and far to little time to comment as often as I should. But I’m loathe to prune them down. :(

    • I know exactly what you mean, timetheif. I am trying my best to filter the list of blogs I follow to keep on check the quality ones only, however it’s not that easy to track all of them at once so it’s nice to keep an eye upon. That’s the blogsphere :)

  26. Hey, you have a great blog here! I’m definitely going to bookmark you! Thank you for your info.And this is bookmark site / Blog. It pretty much covers bookmark related stuff.
