Clay equals Man
Assalam Alaikum wa rahmat Allah.
Peace be upon you dear visitor.
Few minutes ago while updating my blogger profile, I came across a random question that asked me the following: “If mud is dirt plus water, what is clay?” I answered: “Clay equals Man.” It seems – or maybe – I placed this answer automatically because – as Muslims – we believe that human nature is originally a clay creature but when I think twice about this question, I figured out that the answer is in the question itself, but how?
Follow on with my elaborations below; maybe we reach somewhere at the end!

Clay equals Man
Mud equals dirt plus water is a basic physical fact that is applicable for human beings on both levels matter plus soul in my perspective. An in-depth look at the human nature might reveals this mixture of dirt plus water or in other words of evil plus good:
- When man acts in good way, his good part is taking role;
- When man acts in bad way, his evil part is taking role.
This is the reason behind my personal belief that we are just humans who are neither angels nor devils; hence we need to focus on enriching our good side in order to elevate and make it active as much as we can in parallel with the vice versa of depriving our evil part and make it inactive as much as we can.
Now a question rises: but how can we do so? I believe that the keystone for achieving this stage lies behind our human intellect. We are not only sculpting clay but merely humans who have minds plus the soul form The Almighty Allah (swt) – GOD – after the creationism process, hence we are called to use our minds rationally in parallel with the spiritual support.
Nevertheless, since clay equals man therefore sometimes we can go evil. Hence, we are called (or must) to seek for forgiveness from The Creator Almighty Allah (swt) who formed us and thus know that we are humans who equal clay; however again we have the choice to act either good or evil from out human intellect according to both the Islamic faith and beliefs. Hereby in the light of my elaborations, read and think about this verse from the Holy Quran:
{Allah does not charge a soul except [with that within] its capacity. It will have [the consequence of] what [good] it has gained, and it will bear [the consequence of] what [evil] it has earned. “Our Lord, do not impose blame upon us if we have forgotten or erred. Our Lord, and lay not upon us a burden like that which You laid upon those before us. Our Lord, and burden us not with that which we have no ability to bear. And pardon us; and forgive us; and have mercy upon us. You are our protector, so give us victory over the disbelieving people.”} — [Holy Quran (Koran) Translation - 2:286]
In a nutshell, although clay equals man, our life is not only about the two extremes of angels versus devils; rather it is our human intellect that paves the way for how we use our minds in a rational way to elevate ourselves when we wonder, ponder and finally implement and the vice versa happen when we ignore our human intellect that leads to degrade ourselves; hence, it is our choice in parallel with obeying the will of The Creator Almighty Allah.
